Practical advice and useful tips

Perhaps this is your first time living away from home. It can lead to a lot of uncertainty and questions, especially when something isn’t working as it should. That’s why we’ve put together advice and guides on some of the most common things we get asked about.

On this page you can read more about how to clean your drain, change a fuse, clean a faucet aerator and change a light bulb. We hope our guides are of help, and if not, please feel free to contact dik@kollegierneskontor.dk.

Remember not to use drain cleaner or other such chemicals – follow these steps

  • Remove the grate and clean it (also clean the holes in it so water can drain through)
  • Clean the drain of hair and other debris
  • Remove the shower head and flush with the hose directly into the drain (hot water)
  • Put the grate back when you’re done
  • Find the fuse box – it’s in the technical room in one of the kitchens in the block
  • Open the box
  • Find your room number – or where the red light is
  • Push down the black cover
  • Push up the little red button and the black drawer will move out slightly
  • Remove the entire fuse holder
  • Change the fuse – there are fuses on top of the fuse box
  • Push in the black drawer and flip up the black cover
  •

Sometimes we have to turn off the water and there can be debris in the faucet’s aerator.

  • Turn off the water
  • Unscrew the faucet aerator to the right
  • Flip the bottom up to remove any debris
  • Rinse with water if necessary
  • Reattach it by screwing in the faucet aerator to the left

You will need to buy a new bulb yourself (E27 socket) and only do as described here:

  • Turn off the power switch
  • Untwist the glass dome – turn to the left
  • Untwist the light bulb – turn to the left
  • Twist the new light bulb into place – turn to the right
  • Turn on the power switch and check if there is light in the bulb – if not, start again from step 3.
  • If there is light, twist the glass dome back on – turn to the right
